Jack White is mourning the loss of his older brother, Edward “Eddie” Gillis, who died on October 24 at age 60 following a battle with cancer.

White confirmed the news in a heartfelt Instagram tribute, remembering his brother as a generous, funny, and caring person who played an important role in his life and career.

Gillis spent approximately a decade managing Third Man Pressing, the Detroit vinyl manufacturing facility connected to White’s Third Man Records. During his time there, he helped oversee the production of hundreds of thousands of vinyl records.

Before entering the music industry, Gillis worked as a pastry chef, including positions at the Ritz-Carlton and Beaumont Hospital.

White also shared childhood memories of his brother, who played guitar while Jack focused on drums. Eddie later taught him how to string a guitar, fish on the Detroit River, and drive a manual-transmission car.

Beyond his work, Gillis enjoyed making small sculptures from leftover vinyl materials.

He is survived by his wife, Angie, and their two children, Amelia and Garrett.
